Hello.

Remembering Jack

It’s hard to put into words how I’m feeling right now. Jack Layton was more than just a politician. Sure, that’s what he was, but the word itself just seems to fall well-short of actually summing up the man.

So who was Jack, then? To me, he was an inspiration, and the kind of person that represented hope for our future. He seemed to embody all the ideals I felt were important as a Canadian, fighting passionately for social justice and equality for everyone across the country. What’s more, he tried to teach us all that if we strive hard for positive change, we can make it happen.

And beyond all that, he was the kind of man who never seemed to let anything get to his head. They say that there’s no such thing as an honest politician, but I don’t think anybody ever came as close as Jack. I had the privilege of meeting him a few times, as I used to be involved with my university’s NDP club. We would hold pub nights a couple times a year, and he would always show up if he could, to have a pint of cheap beer in a dingy student bar. And whenever I talked to him, I could sense that he truly believed in what he was saying. He was a man of conviction, charisma, and strength, and without a doubt one of the greatest Prime Ministers this country never had.

Jack will be missed, but I also believe we have to honour him by moving forwards. I don’t think he would want anyone to give up the fight because he’s gone, and I hope that his memory becomes a rallying cry for Canadians all across the country. I’m certain Jack would want that to be his legacy.

Rest in Peace.

Fuck yeah Alpha Flight.

Fuck yeah Alpha Flight.

Dino Bat Sculpture in Pittsburg
This cosplaying dino is from 2003’s Dinomite Days, when 100 Fiberglass dinosaurs were installed in the city and then auctioned for charity. Presumably, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh decided to dress this one up in celebration of the Dark Knight Rises being shot in the city.

Remember when we had those cool custom cows in NY? Yeah, fuck that. Pittsburg got dinosaurs.

PITTSBURGH RULES!
Damn. When I was in Pittsburgh, we found a Heinz ketchup triceratops, but we clearly missed the highlight.
